Sr. Sophia Maria Nwanaekezie (1998–2001)

  • Role: First Matron
  • Achievements:
    • Refurbished and equipped the convent chapel and baby care facilities.
    • Increased the number of babies cared for from 3 to 33 within two and a half years.
    • Developed staff guidelines and recruited additional personnel.
    • Registered the home with the Enugu State Gender Affairs Commission.
    • Overcame significant challenges, including lack of resources and poor environmental conditions, to lay the foundation for the home’s growth.

Sr. Lucy Ohademere (2001–2016)

  • Role: Second Matron and First Secretary/Bursar
  • Achievements:
    • Initiated the home’s relocation to Nwannedinamba Estate.
    • Oversaw significant infrastructural improvements, including the installation of generators, water facilities, and inverters.
    • Introduced medical services with a paediatric consultant and recruited more staff.
    • Enhanced operational efficiency with office equipment like typewriters, a landline phone, and a fax machine.
    • Ensured the holistic well-being of the children and staff amidst financial and logistical challenges.

Sr. Sylverline Nnaji (2016–2017)

  • Role: Interim Matron
  • Achievements:
    • Maintained stability and ensured smooth operations during a period of mourning and transition.
    • Provided calm and steady leadership to overcome challenges caused by the sudden loss of Sr. Lucy.
    • Ensured that staff morale remained high despite the difficult circumstances.
    • Organised essential resources to keep the home running efficiently.
    • Strengthened organisational processes to support the smooth handover to the next leadership phase.
    • Fostered a sense of hope and unity among staff and children during a challenging time.

Sr. MartinAgnes Ibewuike (2017–Present)

  • Role: Current Matron
  • Achievements:
    • Implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for efficient management.
    • Trained staff on best practices in child care and holistic development.
    • Supervised the construction of new facilities, including a staff hostel, fish ponds, and a playground.
    • Enhanced the home’s infrastructure with renovations, walkways, and water reservoirs.
    • Received awards for excellence in record-keeping, cleanliness, and child care, solidifying GAMB’s reputation.
    • Fostered a spirit of peace, orderliness, and innovation, transforming the home into “Local Small London.”
